For me, one of the great things with yoga is that you can start just as you are. There is no need to prepare in any way. Also, we come to yoga for different reasons - and any reason is good! You may want to get stronger, more flexible, or both. You may feel you need something to help lower stress levels, or maybe you want to start with yoga simply because you are curious about what it can do for you? Just come and spend some time on the mat and allow the yoga to do its magic :) You will probably feel its effect after 3-4 classes max!

About twenty years ago I signed up for my first yoga class. The reason was that I knew someone who had started and who, within a few months, changed from always seeming so stressed to becoming much more relaxed, and happy. I felt really intrigued, I wanted to get to that place too.

My first teacher had practiced yoga for 40 years. She was in her late sixties, and everyone else in the room much older than me. The thing is, I had no chance of moving like they were moving. I quickly decided this was something that would be good for me.

Practicing yoga gives me a lot of joy and energy. Today, I feel free in how I move, I feel connected and aware, and I am kinder to myself. Learning about the breath has been very helpful as it helps me stay more in the present moment, instead of thinking about the past or worrying about the future. No matter what is happening around me, by connecting with the breath I can get back, again and again, to this place of calmness and stillness within. It’s pretty cool!

Join me in my Wimbledon classes this January and see what yoga can do for you! I currently teach at The Wimbledon Club on Wednesday mornings and evenings (members and non-members welcome) as well as from home, off Copse Hill. You can contact me through my website or by calling me on 07789 175 481.

Take care, and Happy New Year! X
