Catja de Haas Architects Ltd

Catja de Haas architects is a small architectural practice: we make designs that have a minimum impact on the environment . We look for clients who like us to create specific and original solutions to facilitate everyday life and activities in the house: we listen carefully. Design for us involves a clever use of space and the smell, lightness or heaviness of the materials and colour and finding ways to fit a new building in its surroundings, keeping your needs in mind. Through our extensive research into architecture, we are really skilled at offering advice. The practice also runs the Giant Dolls’ house project, a community arts project.
Catja, the founder, is a qualified architect, studied architecture at Delft University in the Netherlands and holds a MA in housing and Urbanism from the Architectural Association. After she took a break from work in large practices, when her children were small, she embarked on a PhD by design at UCL where she explored the use of domestic spaces through an analysis of the 17th century dolls’ house which she finished in 2013.
Prior to setting up on her own she worked in Japan, with Itsuko Hasegawa and in the UK with the late Will Alsop Architects, where she worked on many housing and urban design projects.
