Healthier lifestyles and better medical care are helping towards increased life expectancy. Whilst this is good news, the growing pressures on the NHS and social care services, as well as on ourselves, cannot be ignored.  This has created a 'Sandwich Generation' - those with older relatives to care for, and children to support. It is vital that we should all be aware of the issues and what we can do to plan ahead and to live our lives to the full.

In response to a growing need for information, this event will offer solutions to many of your questions.  Our experts will help us to tackle the challenges that we face and advise how to plan across the generations.

We're delighted that Dame Esther Rantzen DBE will be giving the keynote speech. Dame Esther is the founder of The Silver Line, the UK’s only free confidential helpline providing information, friendship and advice to older people.

Our expert speakers will offer advice, guidance and solutions on:

Mental and physical wellbeing for every stage of life

Financial and legal planning across the generations

Options for assisted living and care

AND Combating loneliness and finding friendship

We are delighted to welcome the following speakers:

Dame Esther Rantzen DBE

Dame Rantzen DBE is an English journalist and television presenter, best known for presenting the hit BBC television series That's Life! for 21 years, from 1973 until 1994. She is well known for her work with various charitable causes. She founded the charities ChildLine, promoting child protection, which she set up in 1986, and The Silver Line, designed to combat loneliness, which she set up in 2012.

Dame Esther received an OBE for services to broadcasting, a CBE for services to children, and in the New Year Honours of 2015, a DBE for services to children and older people through ChildLine and The Silver Line.

Since their national launch, The Silver Line Helpline has received over 1.4 million calls. Over two-thirds of these calls were made overnight or at weekends when no other helpline is available for older people who may be lonely, isolated or confused. They now receive around 10,000 calls every week from lonely and isolated older people; with 53% of callers saying they have literally no-one else to speak to.

The Silver Line relies entirely on voluntary donations to cover the cost of calls to the helpline, The Silver Line’s friendship services, and all other costs.
