Solutions for the Sandwich Generation

Welcome to our Family Matters Conference. This is a unique event with expert speakers and thought-provoking discussions for anyone who may be juggling the demands of parenting young children and teenagers or older children coming back home, as well as the commitments of caring for older parents, or simply preparing for empty nesting and their own later years.

Our series of talks and interactive panel discussions with leading industry experts will explore a range of topics including the importance of financial and legal planning, the joys and opportunities of travel and adventure in midlife and beyond, looking after your own wellbeing and that of your family as well as dementia and later life care needs.

This event is all about helping you plan for your future, getting conversations started across the generations, and living happy, healthy and purposeful lives.

We are delighted to have the support of our three sponsors for this year’s event – St. James’s Place, Mishcon de Reya and Signature Care Homes.

Family Matters Testimonials

Thank you Really Helpful Club for the super Family Matters conference you organised on 12 May. Your conferences are great occasions to meet and connect with others, to hear their ideas and discuss your own, to open new avenues. You had some excellent speakers who addressed a wide range of issues relating to ageing, from financial planning, health and care options, downsizing, planning Whole of Life care, staying physically active and decluttering.

I’d like to congratulate Sarah and her team at the Really Helpful Club for putting on another inspiring and engaging conference. Here at St. James’s Place, we are committed to ensuring people’s financial wellbeing up and down the generations, empowering our clients to be financially prepared for everything that life brings.

It has never been more important to make informed financial decisions, because getting the basics right creates confidence and the best foundations for feeling secure for yourself and your family. I was delighted to support such a special event with so many other talented and knowledgeable presenters, and it was a privilege for me to play my part in highlighting the importance of financial wellbeing for life.”

Massive thanks to Sarah & the Really Helpful Club Team for inviting me along to the Family Matters Conference today at Roehampton Club SW15. If, like me, you’re juggling full time careers whilst caring for an elderly parent, it was insightful, inspiring and extremely thought provoking. There were really informative discussions and advice covering financial and legal planning, later life care, advice on the support available to us and how to broach some of those very sensitive conversations with our loved ones about putting wills and LPAs in place and arranging for care when required. And the importance of looking after ourselves in terms of physical and mental health as well as preparing and planning for our own later life to help ease some of the burden on our children. Brilliant guest speakers who covered every angle on what really matter within families to help prepare and put structure in place for the future. Thanks!

The Family Matters Conference was a triumph thanks to the team at Really Helpful Club who made it all possible. Experienced, knowledgeable, professional speakers all of whom were thought provoking and inspirational made the day a resounding success. To be asked to be part of the panel of speakers was a real pleasure and I felt that we covered the topics that people wanted to talk about with the benefit of our respective experiences.

For me being asked how families start potentially difficult conversations with their ageing parents was the most important aspect. It is never too early to start the conversation and to learn never to make promises that may be impossible to keep as we never know what is around the corner. My fellow panellists were experienced and enthusiastic and between us I felt that we managed to cover all aspects of searching for care solutions. It was a privilege to be part of such an important event.

The Family Matters conference was buzzing with a group of people wanting to learn, engage and have a voice on the issues impacting those in the  “sandwich generation”. We were so delighted to present on such an important topic regarding the right legal framework to have in place to give you more freedom as you get older and we loved meeting the RHC community. The other speakers were so informative and imparted their knowledge expertly.

The underlying message was understanding that planning, structuring and taking advice from the right professionals can help families enjoy life and support each other (whilst being empowered to have the more difficult conversations).  We feel strongly that people must have the right support at key moments in their lives and this conference shone a light on this important topic. Thank you for having us!
