The Thrive Programme – Manage your thinking habits
Tips to help you and your family
There are many things in life that we can’t control. This is everything from tiny annoyances to tragedies and definitely this pandemic.
We can’t control what the government will decide or what others think, say or do. We can’t control who we work with, who is in our class, who is our teacher or who’s in charge. We can’t control Mother Nature, or today’s traffic.
But we CAN control our attitude, our reaction to all the things that we can’t control.
Life is 10% what happens and 90% is about your attitude and how you choose to respond.
We have around 50,000 thoughts every day and, with a bit of effort, we can control what we think and what we say to ourselves. The thoughts we tend to think on a daily basis has a massive impact on your beliefs, attitudes and emotions and how you feel!
????The thoughts you think create the beliefs about life you hold and the feelings you experience.
Try it. Reflect back to something you’ve already thought today. Maybe you listened to the news this morning and you started thinking scared, anxious or helpless thoughts. The news may well have been serious or concerning, but this doesn’t mean you have to think negatively about it. Your child might have done something you don’t agree with but could you look at this from a different angle?
Here are some alternatives.
????Think positive. There are often two sides to every story: think about the positive one.
????Think safe. How does this news directly impact on your life? Can you change a negative thought for one of relief or patience?
????Think calmly. Just because something terrible has happened, it doesn’t mean you have to think catastrophic thoughts.
You might have been conditioned to think in this way: after all, catastrophe sells papers, keeps the airwaves buzzing and attracts your attention on social media. Nonetheless, you have a CHOICE.
Thinking habits can be changed really quickly – and the more effort you put in, the quicker you’ll reap the benefits.
When people start our training we often hear ‘this is who I am, this is how I see life, this is how I always react – I can’t change’. It is then so inspiring to see that these same people, after just a few weeks, do change their attitude towards life and that they do take back control of their responses to events and learn to thrive ????
We all have a CHOICE over what we think and what we pay attention to!
The Thrive Programme teaches you a skillset that helps to manage the ups and downs in your (and your children’s!) life better.
