Keynote speech on The Age of Empowerment at RHC flagship Back to Business conference
Taking the steps towards a starting a new job can be exciting but also daunting, especially if you have been out of the workplace for a long period. We were delighted that Dame Helena Morrissey DBE joined us last year as the keynote speaker at our flagship Back to Business event ‘Realising Your Dreams’.
The event was attended by over 200 women, who had taken a career break and were looking to return to work in the corporate and professional world or to start and scale up a business. It was all about expanding your network, developing your skills and growing your confidence.
Speaking about the ‘Age of Empowerment’, Helena’s highly pragmatic. knowledgeable and inclusive talk resonated with everyone in the room and she was truly inspirational, motivational and engaging. By sharing her own personal and professional experiences, this helped the audience to share their stories with one another too and to feel inspired to take their next step in their career. Dame Helena Morrissey is a financier, author and campaigner. She is well known in the City, particularly for her work on gender equality. Helena founded the 30% Club, a campaign for more gender-balanced boards, and is Chair of the investment industry’s Diversity Project. She was CEO of Newton Investment Management for fifteen years and chaired the Investment Association from 2014 to 2017. Helena has just stepped down from a role leading personal investing at Legal & General. Helena has been named one of Fortune magazine’s World’s 50 Greatest Leaders and the Financial Times’ 2017 ‘Person of the Year’. She was appointed a Dame in the Queen’s 2017 Birthday Honours list. Her first book ‘A Good Time to be a Girl, Don’t Lean In, Change the System’ (publisher William Collins) was described by Forbes as ‘one of the five most empowering books for women’ in 2018.
