A telemedicine company founded by doctors has launched an innovative new service to provide a speedy and free medical consultation service for nurses, doctors and frontline NHS staff whilst also offering a solution for doctors unable to work directly on the frontline. Tonsmor Doctors from Dr Morton’s, which offers consultations by phone, video and email for NHS practices free at the point of care to their NHS patients, has launched Tonsmor Volunteer NHS Doctors to help the relief effort.
“COVID-19 is having a big impact on workforce availability in GP surgeries and hospitals throughout the country as increasing numbers of NHS staff are falling ill with coronavirus symptoms in addition to everyday medical issues,” stated co-founder Dr Karen Morton. “Equally, many doctors returning to work cannot risk the health of loved ones at home by working directly on the frontline. Yet, by working online by phone, video or email provides a way to help colleagues that can. Tonsmor Volunteer NHS Doctors provides a safe return to work route for GMC registered GPs and gynaecologists who want to help their colleagues.
By providing doctor consultations as a speedily accessed complimentary service for NHS workers, Dr Morton wants to make sure their personal health issues are dealt with easily and don’t become an increased part of their burden while they manage the intensity they face on the frontline. Uniquely, Dr
Morton has gynaecologists available for women’s health problems which is crucially important when 75 per cent of the NHS workforce are women. “Treating our NHS heroes…as long as we can cope with demand”.
“Medical professionals are needed most and they are all our heroes. Therefore, we must be able to treat those who are sick and unwell, not just with coronavirus symptoms but also with day to day issues which are easy to forget at this time,” commented Dr Karen Morton, founder of Dr Morton’s® and one of the leading gynaecologists and obstetricians in Britain. “We will be treating our NHS heroes until the end of June and possibly beyond, as long as we can cope with demand. Just today I’ve been stopped in the corridor of my hospital by a midwife with cystitis and an ultrasonographer worried about her HRT. Yesterday it was a midwife with a migraine,” added Dr Morton.
Tonsmor Volunteers set to support frontline NHS medical needs “I am so proud to be launching Tonsmor Volunteer NHS Doctors. It will not only provide the best care for patients but it is particularly applicable for doctors with families that would otherwise be exposed to risk, that are on maternity leave or recently retired and for those working from a position of selfisolation. “If you would like to help your colleagues working on the frontline but can’t perhaps because you’re on maternity leave or any other reason, then please volunteer to help. By joining our service, you will be responding in a similar way to the government’s call for NHS Volunteer Responders, aiding the NHS workforce to stay well and up to their task,” implored Dr Morton.
The service enables doctors to work directly with patients from the safety of their homes. “Providing a health technology workforce solution” Dr Morton’s® was founded as a paid-for service for the public by Dr Karen Morton, an obstetrician and gynaecologist currently working on the NHS frontline, with the support of 70 Founder Doctors and rated ‘Good’ by the CQC.
